Apothecaries and healers recognised the therapeutic powers of St Peter’s thermal spring as far back as the middle bronze age. The soothing waters have a high mineral content and break the surface at 30oC. The first spa house opened here in 1893 and Peter Zumthor’s current architectural masterpiece, the 7132 Spa Hotel opened 20 years ago.
7132 has won many accolades and awards since then, it is already a listed building and whilst Mitja Birlo’s restaurant Silver has 2 Michelin stars, there are 4 other restaurants and bars to cater for all guests’ tastes and moods. The Piccolino Club for children is an excellent new addition for the needs of the little ones, conferencing facilities are very impressive and the concierge can arrange pretty much anything for you, without fuss.
The rooms and suites have been designed by a number of eminent architects. From the presidential and penthouse suites down to single rooms, every one has stunning mountain views, luxury through intelligent exquisite design and superb service, free bar and ESPA products from the spa.
The thermal baths are magnificent and the spa combine the natural soothing effects of the waters with ESPA’s highly sophisticated treatments and several specially developed techniques, unique to 7132. Although very popular with nonresidents, the spa is reserved for guests of the hotel in the mornings and for nighttime bathing.
In addition to the wonderful facilities on-site, 7132 has a superb concierge who have created a range of activities and services of their own, The hotel has a fleet of limousines and helicopters for transfers and excursions, including their Helicopter Hut Hopping for a week’s spectacular refuge heliskiing, rustic champagne lunches in pristine back-country, returning to 7132 each afternoon. Chef Mitja Birlo takes classes with the wine sommelier which are something far above the ordinary, stroll through the lovely village of Vals and relax in the bar to the live jazz accompaniment.
