The Indian Ocean provides us with some of the finest beach on earth, turquoise water that surround its stunning islands make a holiday relaxing enough for even the busiest of people. It’s the perfect place for diving excursions, spa holidays and romantic ocean honeymoons.

There is certainly plenty to choose from in the Indian Ocean, Madagascar has its tropical rain forests and paradise beaches, the Maldives is known for its exclusive island resorts, and the seaplane transfers from one island to another. Interesting facts about the Indian Ocean:

  • In order to draw attention to their concerns of the rising sea levels in the Maldives, President Mohamed Nasheed moved the October 2009 cabinet meeting to the bottom of the ocean. The president and 13 other government officials strapped on scuba gear and sat at desks that had been sunk to the bottom of the sea.
  • Bird Island, in the Seychelles is home to the heaviest land tortoise living in the wild, Esmeralda, who tips the scales at 670 pounds.
