Hotel Flora

Hotel Flora

An enchanting Venetian Palazzo, Hotel Flora offers a truly memorable experience Family-run for three generations, rooms full of character and a gorgeous little garden – all in A1 position, 5 minutes’ stroll from St Mark’s Square

Hotel Flora is in perfect position, 5 minutes’ stroll along the Calle XXII Marzo, one of Venice’s most elegant streets, from St Mark’s Square. Originally a seventeenth-century Palazzo, the hotel was once the School of Painting, frequented by great Venetian artists whilst next door is Palazzo Contarini Fasan, heralded as the home of Desdemona, heroine of Othello. The Palazzo later became a small pensione and has since remained in the Romanelli family for over fifty years, maintaining the charm and warmth of a family establishment.

As you enter the small lobby of the hotel, you glimpse the lovely little garden through a glass arch. This is a particularly unusual feature and Venetians love to drop in to Flora’s little oasis, so close to the centre of all the city action. The hubbub of St Mark’s and XXII Marzo are just around the corner, yet guests in the courtyard would not know it, surrounded by creepers, fountains and flowering shrubs cascading from stone urns; an idyllic setting for morning coffee and brioches or an early evening aperitivo.

Inside, there is an elegant, old-world character and homely, welcoming intimacy. The Romanelli family has taken great care in furnishing the 44 rooms so that each is individual in style and character – some with period furniture from the end of the 19th century, others in 18th century Venetian style.

Service too, is intimate and guests will cherish the peace and quiet at Flora after a day’s exploration of Venice. The Fenice Theatre, Gallerie dell’Accademia, La Salute and the Guggenheim are just a few minutes’ walk away whilst the gondola ferry can take you across the Grand Canal – or stroll up it to the Rialto. Everything is to hand without any onerous journeying, providing guests a memorable and authentic experience in a Venetian institution, loved by the locals in this truly magnificent city.
